Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa improved to 3-0 all-time against Westminster in a 3-1 over the Griffins on Friday afternoon at Walker Field in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's soccer matchup. Westminster is in their first season in the RMAC for men's soccer.
The Mavericks jumped on the board early in the match with an
Oscar Odriozola goal in the eighth minute. Odriozola took a cross from
Kevin Del Mazo and scored his third goal of the season to give Colorado Mesa the 1-0 halftime lead.
Westminster evened the match in the 59
th minute with a goal after a mad scramble in front of the Maverick goal.
In the 76
th minute, Colorado Mesa took the lead for good after Westminster was whistled for a foul in the box giving the Mavericks a penalty kick.
Moshe Perez converted the PK for his first goal of his college career.
Perez wasn't done on the night as he scored his second goal of the night on a cross from
Kevin Escobar. The goal gave the Mavericks the 3-1 lead that they would hold onto for the rest of the match.
Briley Guarneri only needed to make one save on the night to pick up the win in net.
The Mavericks will embark on the long road trip to Rapid City, S.D. for a matchup with South Dakota Mines on Sunday at 1:00pm.
