Oscar Odriozola scored his first two collegiate goals to lead Colorado Mesa to a 3-1 win over the visiting West Texas A&M Buffs on Sunday at Walker Field in a NCAA South Central region matchup.
Odriozola's first goal came in the 26
th minute on a scramble in front of the goal. Odriozola took a headed ball from
Kevin Del Mazo and found the back of the net to give Colorado Mesa the early 1-0 lead.
The Mavericks took a 2-0 lead in the 52
nd minute of the match on a
Kevin Del Mazo goal. Del Mazo's goal was his second of the season and came on a shot from roughly 25 yards out.
West Texas drew within a goal after Austin Henderson scored in the 77
th minute to cut the lead to 2-1.
Odriozola's second goal came on a three-on-two break where he took a pass from
Moshe Perez and tucked the ball inside the near post. The goal gave the Mavericks the decisive 3-1 advantage.
Colorado Mesa will open up the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season on Friday at Walker Field. They will host rival UCCS on Friday at 7:00pm before taking on MSU Denver on Sunday.
