Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's soccer team scored a pair of second half goals to break a nil-nil tie in a 2-0 win over the St. Mary's Rattlers on Friday evening at Walker Field in a matchup of South Central region foes.
James McGhee scored his first collegiate goal in the second half off a corner kick by
Moshe Perez. McGhee flashed in front of the goal and flicked in the score to make it 1-0.
The Mavericks second goal came just moments after the first.
A little over four minutes later,
Roy Abergil kicked home his first goal of the season after taking a pass from freshman
Oscar Odriozola to make it 2-0. Abergil moved into fourth place all-time in points with the goal.
Nick Mabry picked up the clean sheet in goal, only needing to make one save. Mabry, making his first start in goal in his career, faced six Rattler shots.
Colorado Mesa will close out the home opening weekend with a match against another South Central Region foe in the West Texas A&M Buffs at 1:00pm.
