Mavericks Win Tournament in Dramatic Fashion

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Junior Alex Fife delivered a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Colorado Mesa a 7-6 win over MSU Denver in the RMAC Tournament Championship on Sunday afternoon at Suplizio Field.

For the Mavericks, it is their second straight RMAC Tournament Championship and gives them the automatic berth into next week's NCAA South Central Region Tournament.

Fife's walkoff came after MSU Denver scored a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning on a two-run single by Alex Walker that knotted the game at 6-6.

Bligh Madris picked up the win on the mound after coming in relief of Dakota Behr. Madris went two innings and allowed just one walk.

At the plate, Madris was 1-for-3 with an RBI and was named the Tournament MVP. He led the tournament in hits and was second in runs driven in.

Austin Wallingford put the Mavericks ahead in the third inning with a line drive three-run home run over the left field mini monster. Wallingford finished the game 2-for-4 with four runs driven in and a run scored. He was named to the all-tournament team for the second straight season.

Zach McLeod was also named to the all-tournament team after going 2-for-4 on the day with a home run and his 20th double of the season.

Tyler Ehlers and Nick Cardinale were also named to the all-tournament team as well.

Colorado Mesa will await the NCAA Selection Show at 8pm tonight on whether or not they will host the South Central Regional.
