DENVER – The Colorado Mesa University softball team kept its RMAC Tournament hopes alive after splitting a pair of games Thursday (April 30).
Western New Mexico allowed just one hit to defeat Colorado Mesa 5-0 in the first round of the tournament.
Brooke Hodgson took the loss for CMU allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits.
Nicole Robinson recorded the lone hit for the Mavericks who struck out seven times.
Colorado Mesa rebounded with a 3-2 win over Colorado Christian in an elimination game.
After two scoreless innings, the Cougars got on the board first with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning on three hits.
The Mavericks answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Megan Brown reached on a bunt single and then advanced to second on a passed ball. She scored a single to right field by
Makayla Kovac. Kovac would score on a single to center field by
Brooke Hodgson at the next at-bat.
Brooke Hodgson scored the winning run for the Mavericks in the fifth inning on a single by
Madelyn Schulz.
Hodgson led the team with two hits and earned the save for Mesa pitching the final 2/3 of an inning.
Rochelle Talamantes earned the win allowing two runs on four hits.
Colorado Mesa (33-22) will face the #18 MSU Denver Friday (May 1) at 12:15 pm.Â
