GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa trailed just 10-5 to No. 3 Lindenwood at halftime, but the Lions outscored the Mavericks 7-1 in the second half and were able to secure a 17-6 win on Wednesday afternoon at Walker Field in a RMAC women's lacrosse match.
The Mavericks kept within striking distance the entire first half and had the lead cut to two with 7:34 to go in the first half.
A big part was the Maverick defense holding the Lindenwood attackers to just 3-for-10 in their free position attempts.
The biggest difference in the game may have come on draws. After securing three of the first four draws, Colorado Mesa didn't hold possession of one until 36 seconds were left in the first half as Lindenwood owned a 17-8 advantage in the game.
Olivia Porcaro led the Colorado Mesa attack with two goals on four shots. Both of Porcaro's goals came in the first half.
Ashley Eickhoff added a goal to her career total that now sits at 97.
Jillian Pfeiffer and
Kady Herzog split time in net during the game. The duo combined for 10 saves and faced 37 Lion shots.
The Mavericks will head down to Durango on Saturday to do battle with Fort Lewis in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest.
