LA JOLLA, Calif. – Three Colorado Mesa pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout of No. 15 UC-San Diego in a 2-0 win on Friday evening in their season opener. 
Matt Delay took the ball in game one and pitched five innings and allowed three hits, one walk and struck out nine to earn the win. Delay struck out the side in the third inning, and two in each of the first two innings. 
Dakota Behr followed Delay and went 3.2 innings and allowed two hits, walked four and struck out five. 
Tyler Ehlers pitched the final out of the game to earn the save. 
The Mavericks scored their first run on after leadoff man 
Andy Scott reached on a strike out passed ball and was driven in on a sac fly by 
Austin Wallingford in the first inning. 
They picked up an insurance run in the second inning on a RBI single by 
Zach McLeod that scored 
PJ Gonzalez who reached on a bunt single. 
Trevor Elcock and McLeod each finished the game with two hits. 
The Mavericks have now won two straight season openers after going 4-8 the previous 12 seasons. 
Colorado Mesa will conclude their season opening series with UC-San Diego tomorrow with a single nine-inning game at 2pm.
