ST. GEORGE, Utah – Colorado Mesa's comeback rally in the ninth came up one run short in a 7-6 loss to Dixie State on Sunday afternoon at Bruce Hurst Field in the series finale.
 
The Mavericks had the tying run on in the ninth after singles by Bligh Madris and Trevor Elcock put runners on first and second, trailing by two.
 
A double play ended the threat and Colorado Mesa could only garner one run in the inning.
 
The Mavericks outhit the Red Storm 16-10 but committed one costly error that led to four unearned runs in the bottom of the third.
 
Zach McLeod and Elcock each finished the game with three hits.
 
Dakota Behr, starting for the first time in his career after spending the first three years of his career in the bullpen, took the loss. Behr pitched 3.1 innings and allowed six runs (two earned) on six hits, walked one and struck out two.
 
The loss ends the Mavericks five-game winning streak to start the season and ended the seven-game losing streak for Dixie State.
 
Colorado Mesa will have their home opener on Thursday when they play host to Cal Baptist at 2:00pm at Suplizio Field.
