WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS – No. 2 Midwestern State University scored three straight second half goals in a 4-2 win over Colorado Mesa University in the NCAA Tournament Sunday (Nov. 15).
The loss ended the season for the Mavericks. CMU finishes with a 14-5-2 mark.
Ben Clarvis scored the first goal of the game for the Mustangs off a cross in the 16
th minute.
The lead lasted just one minute when
Trentin Atkin scored his third goal of the season on a free kick.
Luis Schraidt assisted on the goal.
Moshe Perez gave the Mavericks the lead with a beautiful goal in the 24
th minute. Perez beat a defender then scored on a shot from the end line that deflected off the far post.
Blake Carlson assisted on Perez's sixth goal of the season.
Flavio Guzman tied the game with his shot from 20 yards out that found the upper corner of the goal in the 53
rd minute.
Leon Taylor ran onto a through a ball and buried it in the bottom right corner in the 66
th minute.
Laurence Chamberlain completed the scoring for MSU with his third goal of the season in the 76
th minute.
The four goals were tied the most allowed by CMU this season. MSU scored four goals against CMU in the season opener.
Midwestern finished with a 23-7 edge in shots and led 8-4 in corner kicks.
Briley Guarneri (12-4-2) made eight saves in goal for CMU.Â
