GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa University swimming and diving teams opened the 2015-16 season at home against several NCAA Div. I teams at the Intermountain Shootout Friday (Oct. 9).
Cassi Blakeman posted the highest finish for the Mavericks finishing second on the one-meter springboard with a score of 249.15. Abi Smith finished eighth with a score of 197.25.
The men's divers had a successful day on the three-meter board placing three in the top-10. Ryan Popp was third with a score of 272.70, Sage D'Ambrosia was sixth (258.25) and Zach Craig was 10
th (214.35).
The 100 breaststroke was a strong event for both the men and women. Josh Bedford was third (57.48), and Parker Twiss was 10
th (1:00.90). Miranda Reetz led the women placing seventh (1:07.70).
Justin Hastings finished fourth in the men's 100 back in 50.61.
Chris Radomski finished fifth in the 50 fly (23.67), and Morgan Bean was sixth (23.70).
Sam Bryant posted two top-10 showings. He was sixth in the 1,650 (16:48.16) and seventh in the 400 individual medley (4:11.50). Teammate Ryan Gifford was ninth in the 1,650 in 17:04.63.
Abbie Porter contributed two top-10 showings for the women. She was sixth in the 1,650 (18:24.62) and ninth in the 400 individual medley (4:49.73).
Danielle Fournier was ninth in the 1,650 (18:56.27), and Sami Lenzmeier was 10
th in the 400 individual medley (4:50.34).
Both the men's (1:34.37) and women's (1:51.64) finished sixth in the 200 medley relay.
The Intermountain Shootout will conclude Saturday (Oct. 9).Â
