Trentin Atkin scored on a penalty kick in the only score of the match in a 1-0 Â win over the Grizzlies. The goal was Atkin's first goal of the season. On Sunday, the Mavericks earned a 3-0 shutout win over RMAC rival Fort Lewis at Walker Field. Three different Mavericks scored in the match which moved Colorado Mesa into a tie for second place in the standings.Â
THIS WEEKEND'S OPPONENTSThe Mavericks face another opponent they have never lost to in the Colorado Christian Cougars. The Mavericks are 14-0-1 all-time against the Cougars and 7-0-1 on the road in Lakewood. On Sunday, they will take on Colorado Mines where the Orediggers own a 4-13-0 record against CMU.
RANKED OPPONENTColorado Mesa will square off with a ranked opponent on Sunday in Colorado Mines. This is the first ranked opponent they have played since the opening weekend of the season when they went 0-1-1 against St. Edward's and Midwestern State. CMU is 5-2-1 over the last two seasons against ranked opponents.

Kevin Escobar moved up to No. 4 on the all-time assist chart with his dime to
Blake Carlson on a corner kick against Fort Lewis. Escobar has nine career assists and trails his brother Nestor by eight for the top spot on the chart.
TOP HONORFreshman
Briley Guarneri earned RMAC Goalkeeper of the Week following his performance against Adams State and Fort Lewis. Guarneri earned back-to-back shutouts on the weekend, only needing to make four saves combined. He faced 11 shots over the two matches. Guarneri joins fellow freshman
Oscar Odriozola as recipients of a RMAC Player of the Week honor.
COACHINGTodd Padgett is in his second season coaching the Mavericks. He had an extermely successful first season, finishing 18-4-1 and leading the Mavericks all the way to the NCAA National Semifinals in Louisville, Ky.Â
The Mavericks will have four assistants helping them out this season with
Stan Schrock returning as the top assistant. Schrock was an Academic All-American and All-Region defender a year ago.
2014 NCAA NATIONAL SEMIFINALISTSThe Mavericks had their second straight season of firsts. In 2013, they won the RMAC Tournament for the first time in program history. They followed that up with their first NCAA Tournament appearance, NCAA Tournament win, and South Central Region title.
RMAC PRESEASON POLLColorado Mesa was picked to finish fifth in the preseason coaches poll but received four first place votes.
Roy Abergil and
Blake Carlson were selected to the preseason All-RMAC team with Carlson earning preseason defensive player of the year.

NEXT UPThe Mavericks will finish up a mini three match road trip on Wednesday against Westminster in a non-RMAC counting match. On Sunday, they will return home for a match against CSU-Pueblo at Walker Field.
