Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – After only scoring one goal in the first half, Colorado Mesa erupted for three second half goals in a 4-0 win over South Dakota Mines on Friday evening at Walker Field. The match does not count in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings as the match earlier did count.
Roy Abergil scored the first goal of the match to give the Mavericks the only lead they needed. It was Abergil's ninth goal of the season and was assisted by
Moshe Perez.
The Mavericks earned their second goal on an own goal by the Hardrockers. The South Dakota Mines defender was playing the ball back to the keeper and fired one past his own goalkeeper.
Matthew Miller scored his first goal of the season to give Colorado Mesa a 3-0 lead in the match. The goal was assisted by
Kevin Del Mazo, his fourth assist of the season.
The final goal came in the 83
rd minute of the match.
Alec Dinsmore scored off a corner kick by
Juan Morillon for his second goal of the season.
Colorado Mesa limited the Hardrockers to just five shots in the match and didn't allow them to attempt a corner kick.
Briley Guarneri earned his ninth shutout of the season to move into second all-time in shutouts injust his freshman campaign. He made three saves on the evening.
The Mavericks will close out the regular season at home on Sunday against Regis. Colorado Mesa will honor its four seniors before the match.
