GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The 20
th ranked Colorado Mesa wrestling team won eight of the ten bouts in a 35-7 win over San Francisco State in Brownson Arena on Thursday evening in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual.
Colby Christensen got things started at 125 pounds, picking up a 18-2 technical fall win over Gator Brandon Vu. Christensen's tech fall came with seven seconds left in the first period and gave the Mavericks the early 5-0 lead.
Christensen's win started a run of six straight wins for Colorado Mesa that featured a pin by
Daniel Salazar at 141 pounds, a major decision by
Drew Schumann at 149 pounds, and a tech fall by
James Martinez at 157 pounds.
Jessie Hoffschneider picked up a 5-0 decision over Vincent Aboytes at 165 pounds. Hoffschneider, wrestling in his fifth match of the season, scored two takedowns and received a riding point in the end.
Mitch Wyatt scored a win at 184 pounds and
Jordan Passehl picked up a pin at 285 pounds for the Mavericks.
The mat Mavs will be back in action tomorrow night at 6:00pm when they square off against No. 15 Cal Baptist in Brownson Arena.
