Mavericks Fall in National Semifinals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 1 ranked Charleston scored a goal just six and a half minutes into the match and added another in the second half in a 2-0 win over the Colorado Mesa Mavericks in the NCAA National semifinals at Owsley Frazier Stadium on the campus of Bellarmine University.

Charleston took control early in the first half with the early goal but the Mavericks battled back and possessed the ball most of the late stages of the first half.

All-American Roy Abergil missed the far post by inches in the waning minutes of the first half that would have knotted the match.

Charleston's first half goal was scored by All-American Augusto Maciel for his 18th of the season.

In the second half, the Mavericks were aggressive with their attack finding a pair of shots in the early going.

Nestor Escobar ripped a shot that was blocked and deflected over to Charlie Dukes whose one-timer was blocked as well.

The Mavericks outshot the Golden Eagles in the second half 10-9 but couldn't find the back of the net.

Charleston picked up their insurance goal on a counter attack when Will Roberts beat Micah Conrads on the lower left corner.

Conrads was spectacular in goal, making seven saves including two sure shot goals that were saved. He faced a total of 21 shots in the match.

The Mavericks close out the season with a school record 18 wins and the NCAA South Central Region Championship.
