GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. –
Stevie Palma's goal in the 18
th minute was all it took for Colorado Mesa to defeat Midwestern State in a 1-0 win in a second round match of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Walker Field.
Stan Schrock served a long ball forward to Palma who then took the ball towards the Mustang keeper and flicked it over for the game-winning goal. The goal was Palma's fifth of the season.
Midwestern State owned the second half with a flurry of shots including a pair that Maverick goalkeeper
Micah Conrads had to deflect away.
Conrads finished the match with four saves with 17 total shots faced. The shutout was his fifth of the season and the 17
th of his career.
Albert Rodriguez had six shots for Midwestern State and Andrew Power had four.
The Mavericks will now face South Central region No. 1 seed St. Edward's in the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA Tournament. That match will take place on Thursday at 5:30pm (mountain) at Interbay Stadium in Seattle, Washington.
