GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa scored three second half goals en route to a 3-0 win over South Dakota Mines on Sunday afternoon at Walker Field.
"We controlled the game and the tempo. We had our opportunities; we just have to be better on our set pieces. It took too long to convert one," Mavericks coach Josh Pittman said about the performance.
The Mavericks didn't allow a Hardrocker shot in the game and finished with 24 for themselves. They also set a school record for corner kicks in a game with 19.

Austin Jex headed it in. The goal was Jex's first of the season and the first of his collegiate career.
The Mavericks didn't waste much time putting their second goal on the board.
Just a little over three minutes later,
Patrick LaPorta headed one past the goalkeeper to give CMU a 2-0 lead.
Michael Bagheri took a pass from
Marco Escobar then chipped it over the defense setting up LaPorta's header.
CMU's final goal of the match came in the 85
th minute when freshman
Spencer Jackson found the left side of the goal for his first career goal.
Kevin Escobar kicked a centering pass to Jackson to setup the goal.
Micah Conrads made his first appearance of the season in goal. Conrads didn't face a shot and picked up the shutout.
"We have to continue to get better on our set pieces and have to improve on." Pittman added heading into RMAC play. "We also need to finish better. We had a lot of chances today and need to finish them from here on out."
The Mavericks will open up RMAC play on Friday in Golden when they take on nationally ranked Colorado Mines at 7:30pm.
