Box Score DENVER, Colo. – Colorado Mesa secured a spot in the RMAC Tournament Championship after scoring two goals in the final five minutes of the match to upend second seeded Colorado Mines 2-1 at Regis Match Pitch.
Colorado Mines scored the first goal of the match in the in the 59
th minute. RMAC Player of the Year Tesho Akindele headed a ball in to the net for his 19
th goal of the season and gave the Orediggers the lead.
The Mavericks knotted the match up at 1-1 with just 4:45 seconds left in the match. Senior
Marco Escobar took a cross from
Ethan Johnson and found the left side of the net. The goal was Escobar's fifth of the season and second of the tournament.
With just 1:33 to go in the match,
Michael Bagheri served in a ball from nearly the midfield stripe and
Tim Hofer headed it into the left side of the goal to give the Mavericks the 2-1 edge. The goal was Hofer's second of the year.
Micah Conrads made two saves and improved his record to 8-0-2 on the season.
Colorado Mesa moved its record to 12-5-3 on the season and will now play in the RMAC Tournament Championship on Sunday at 1:00pm. The Mavericks opponent will either be Fort Lewis or the top seed and host Regis.
