Foster Leads Mavericks to Shootout Win

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's soccer team will move into the RMAC semifinals for the first time in school history following a thrilling 2-1, shootout win over the UC-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions at Walker Field.

The Mavericks struck early for their goal when All-RMAC first teamer Marco Escobar got behind the UCCS defense and beat the goalie on the right side of the net. The goal was Escobar's fourth of the season.

UCCS didn't wait long to strike back. Sebastian Hertzberg hammered a shot from just outside the goalie box and found the net over goalkeeper Micah Conrads.

Colorado Mesa outshot the Mountain Lions in the match 10-8 but both teams came up with four saves.

That would be the way it went through the overtime periods and into the shootout.

Each team's first five players scored which sent the team's into a 1-for-1 situation.

On UCCS' sixth shot, Maverick Micah Conrads made a huge save, diving to his right to stymie the Mountain Lions final shot.

"We were just hoping Micah could come up big on one and he did," Maverick coach Josh Pittman said.

That setup Sean Foster, who stepped up and chipped one on the left side of the net.

"We subbed him in in the end because we knew that he would finish it," Pittman said about Foster's goal.

Colorado Mesa moves their record to 11-5-3 on the season.

The Mavericks will take on the #2 seed Colorado Mines Orediggers at 11am from Regis Match Pitch on the campus of Regis University.
