Mavericks Clinch Playoff Spot in 2-0 Win Over Adams

Box Score ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's soccer team clinched a top four finish in the RMAC after defeating the Adams State Grizzlies 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at ASU Soccer Field.

The match was the second for Colorado Mesa in as many days. Their match with Fort Lewis on Friday was postponed until Saturday due to lightning and severe weather in Durango.

The Mavericks got on the board in the first half when Tim Hofer scored his first goal of the season. Hofer's goal was unassisted in the 23rd minute of the match and gave CMU the 1-0 lead.

Senior Marco Escobar gave the Mavericks an insurance goal in the 66th minute of the match. Escobar's second goal of the season was assisted by Skylar Roy.

Brandyn Bumpas got the start in goal and picked up his third shutout of the season, making three saves.

The win gives the Mavericks 24 points in the RMAC and a guaranteed top four finish. It could also give them their first home playoff game in the program's history. A pair of wins next weekend could give the Mavericks the RMAC Championship, depending on the outcome of other matches.

Colorado Mesa will play Regis and Metro State in their final matches of the regular season next weekend at Walker Field.
