The Colorado Mesa University Men's Soccer team opened up RMAC play against the defending NCAA National Champions on Friday night at Walker Field. More than 500 fans saw the Mavericks drop an absolute heartbreaker 1-0. The Mavericks fall to 2-2-1 on the season and 0-1-0 in the RMAC while Fort Lewis improves to 3-1-0 and 1-0-0 in RMAC matches.
The two teams played even for more than 109 minutes but in the end Skyhawk Yannis Becker's put back with 25 seconds left sealed the win for Fort Lewis. The goal was Becker's 4th of the season and came off a Zac Lawrence shot that rebounded off the crossbar and came right to Becker who put it in right side.
The Skyhawks outshot the Mavericks on the night 10-7 and seven of the Skyhawks shots were on goal while three were on target for the Mavericks.
CMU will take on the Colorado Christian Cougars on Sunday at Walker Field. Kick Off is set for 12:00pm Noon.
