#15 Tigers Outlast #20 Mavericks 21-16

         The Colorado Mesa University wrestling team went on the road to Hays, Kan. to take on the 15th ranked Fort Hays State Tigers. The Mavericks came into the dual ranked 20th in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association National Rankings. Fort Hays was just a shade too much for CMU as they defeated the Mavericks 21-16. The two teams split the bouts but the Tigers picked up a forfeit at 125 pounds and a pin at 165 pounds.

        James Martinez took to the mats for the first time as a ranked wrestler. Martinez entered the match as the 8th ranked wrestler at 141 pounds. He didnt have a chance to enjoy it as he took on 7th ranked C.J. Napier. Martinez fell behind early surrendering a takedown in the matches opening minute but fought back in the match and won 7-3. The win was Martinez' second consecutive win over a ranked wrestler and moved his season record to 18-8 on the season. It was the first loss on the season for Napier as an attached wrestler with Fort Hays.
        
        Junior Jon Gappmaier extended his winning streak to 13 with a win tonight over Fort Hays' Derek Koehn 9-3. Gappmaier is now 26-6 on the season.

        Nick Petersen was looking to continue his win streak on Thursdat night . Nick came into the match ranked 8th in the most recent individual rankings. Petersen came out and continued his streak with a 14-0 major decision win over Aaron Berscheidt. The win puts Petersen's record at 22-10 on the season and 6-2 in RMAC matches. His streak now stands at 4 and he has won 8 of his past 9 matches. 
        
        The Mavericks will conclude their road swing tomorrow night with a dual against 4th ranked Nebraska-Kearney. Dual is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm MST.
