All American Brock Martin opened up the 2012 diving season with multiple victories at the CMU Intermountain Shootout at El Pomar Natatorium on the campus of Colorado Mesa University. CMU hosted the two day event that included Air Force Academy. The event marked the first meet for new head coach Ron Allen.
Martin won the 1 meter event scoring 281.90 points and registering nine team points for the Mavericks. Martin outdistanced Air Force's Dominic Vallejo's second place point total of 269.95. CMU's Ryan Popp and Austin Fahrenholtz finished third and fourth respectively.
In the 3 meter competition Martin scored 286.55 points defeating AFA's Vallejo who scored 271.95 points. Farenholtz and Popp switched places from the 1 meter results with Farenholtz placing third and Popp took fourth.
CMU's swimming team registered numerous second place finishes including several personal best times in the Mavs' first official meet of the 2012-13 season. On Friday CMU placed second in the 400 yard freestyle relay and on Saturday finished second in the 200 free relay.
Junior Tyler Kaslik finished second in the 200 fly (2:01.08), 500 free (5:01.14) and 100 fly (53.40). Shaun Seuschek placed second in the 100 back with a time of 55.94 and second in the 200 IM in 2:02.01.
Peter Szekely picked up where he left off a year ago placing second in the 100 free (48.39). Freshman Drake Mendelson was outstanding in his first collegiate meet finishing second in the 200 back (2:03.18) Brett Lowe touched the wall in second in the 200 breast in a time of 2:17.86.
CMU swimming and diving return to the pool next Saturday as they will host Colorado School of Mines in a dual meet beginning at Noon at the El Pomar Natatorium.
