The Colorado Mesa University Men's Soccer team started their mini three-match weekend in Durango on Wednesday afternoon with a match against Fort Lewis. The Mavericks came away with a historic victory over the Skyhawks 2-0. The win was Colorado Mesa's first ever against the perennial Division II power and the Mavericks were 0-10-1 all-time against the Skyhawks. Colorado Mesa pushes their record to 6-3-1 overall and 4-2-0 while the Skyhawks fall to 6-4-1 and 3-3-1 in RMAC matches.
The two teams played to a scoreless first half with the Skyhawks taking three shots to the Mavericks two.
At the 47:49 mark in the match, the Mavericks took the lead on a
Marco Escobar goal. Marco took a pass from
Michael Bagheri and found the back of the net off the far post. The goal was Escobar's fourth of the season and gave the Mavericks a 1-0 lead.
The Mavericks picked up an insurance goal late in the match.
Brandon Burton scored his third goal of the season on a breakaway towards the goal in the 85th minute and gave the Mavericks the 2-0 advantage.

Micah Conrads picked up the win and made one save. It was Conrads third shutout of the season.
The win pushes the Mavericks into a second place tie with Colorado-Colorado Springs and Metro State with 12 points. Both teams are trailing first place Regis who has 16 points.
The Mavericks will continue their road swing with a match on Friday against Adams State University in Alamosa.
