The Colorado Mesa University Men's Soccer team played their final home regular season match of the season on Sunday against #1 ranked Regis. The Rangers prevailed with a 4-1 victory over Colorado Mesa. The Mavericks are now 8-5-3 on the season and 6-4-2 in the RMAC while the Rangers kept their record perfect, improving to 13-0-1 and 11-0 in the RMAC.
The Mavericks got the scoring going early in the match. In the 7th minute, Sophomore
Alan Hernandez ripped a shot just outside the box and found the top left corner of the goal. The goal was assisted by
Patrick Wall and gave the Mavericks an early 1-0 lead.
The lead was short lived as Ranger Justin Ortinau evened the match with his third goal of the season. The goal came off a free kick just outside of the box.
The Rangers took the lead just a little over three minutes later when Ranger Stephen Reed took a rebound from a Martin Maybin shot and found the left side of the goal. That gave Regis a 2-1 lead at that point.
The Rangers tacked on another goal just before halftime to take a 3-1 halftime lead.
Regis tacked on another goal at the 50:15 mark of the match to make the score 4-1.
The Mavericks will be on the road to finish the regular season off. They will play at Colorado Mines and CSU-Pueblo next weekend.
