Mavericks Stampede Past Cougars 2-0

        The Colorado Mesa University men's soccer team continued their winning ways this afternoon with a 2-0 win over the Colorado Christian Cougars in Lakewood, Colo. The Mavericks improved their record on the season to 2-7-1 and 2-4-0 in the RMAC while the Cougars dropped to 0-9-1 overall and 0-6-0 in RMAC matches.
        The Mavericks struck late in the first half on a goal by Brandon Burton to give CMU a 1-0 lead. It was Burton's first goal of the season and was assisted by Jeremy Gwerder, his 2nd of the season.
        Colorado Mesa limited the Cougars to 2 first half shots while CMU ripped off 13 shots and 4 of those were on goal.
        CMU notched their 2nd goal of the match in the 50th minute. Stevie Palma scored his team leading 3rd goal of the season and gave the Mavericks a decisive 2-0 lead. Palmas goal was unassisted.
        For the match, the Mavericks outshot Colorado Christian 21-4 and took more corner kicks 8-4. Over the past 2 matches, CMU has improved its goals per game average to 1.08 and shots per game to an even 11.0.
        Caleb Ealey picked up the win in goal making 2 saves. It was the Mavericks first shutout of the season.
        The Mavericks will continue their road trip on Sunday with a matchup with Colorado Mines. The Orediggers were ranked 20th in the countray in the latest NSCAA national rankings.
