CMU Offensive Explosion Leads to 5-1 Win

Box Score         The Colorado Mesa men's soccer team picked up its first victory of the season this afternoon in grand fashion. CMU picked up a 5-1 victory over the Adams State Grizzlies and scored more goals (5) in one game then they had on the season before the game started (4). The Mavericks move to 1-7-1 and 1-4-0 in the RMAC, while the Grizzlies fell to 2-4-1 and 2-3-0 in RMAC matches.
        The Grizzlies jumped out to the early lead in the match, scoring the match's first goal at the 1:21 mark. Grizzly Erick Hendrickson scored beyond the outstreched arms of Maverick goalie Caleb Ealey to give Adams a 1-0 lead.
         CMU got the equalizer in the 17th minute of the match. Gwerder received the ball from Sean Foster and took the shot and scored past the Grizzly goalkeeper on the right side of the net. It was Gwerder's first goal of the season and knotted the match at 1-1.
        The Mavericks would take the lead just before halftime on the first of two Danny Molineaux goals. Molineaux took a pass from Alan Hernandez and scored on the top side of the goal. It was Molineaux's first goal of the season and gave the Mavericks a 2-1 advantage.
        In the 48th minute, Molineaux would net his second goal of the match and season. Michael Bagheri crossed a ball into the box and Molineaux headed it home for a 3-1 CMU lead.
        14 minutes later in the match, Mouhamad Gaye would get in on the scoring effort. Gaye took a pass from Brandon Burton and hammered home a one-timer for his first goal of the season. The goal would give the Mavericks a decisive 4-1 lead in the match but Mo wasnt done on the day.
        Mo Gaye would notch his second goal of the match and season in the 88th minute of the match. Tim Hofer crossed a pass just over the goalie and right to the feet of Gaye who put the ball in the back of the net. The goal gave the Mavericks 5-1 advantage in the match.
        Caleb Ealey earned the win in goal for CMU and made one save in the match.
        Colorado Mesa will hit the road next weekend as they will take on Colorado Christian in Lakewood on Friday. On Sunday, CMU will head over to Golden for a match with Colorado Mines.
