Sara Tafoya Men's Soccer 10/2/2011 6:08:00 PM Second Half Buries Colorado Mesa Box Score The Colorado Mesa University men's soccer team fell to the 20th ranked Orediggers of Colorado Mines 4-2 this afternoon in Golden, Colo. The Mavericks led 2-1 at halftime but 3 second half goals by the Orediggers sealed the Maverick fate. CMU falls to 2-8-1 on the season and 2-5 in RMAC matches while the Orediggers improved their record to 7-3 and 5-2 in the RMAC. Colorado Mines struck first in the match on a penalty kick by Alex Nass. CMU came storming back with a goal in the 38th minute of the match. Steven Bagheri scored his first goal of the season on a free kick from the top of the box and made it into the left corner. The goal was Bagheri's first as a Maverick and knotted the match at 1-1. A little over three minutes later, Danny Molineaux scored his third goal of the season to give CMU a 2-1 lead heading into halftime. Molineaux scored off a blocked Stevie Palma shot that caromed off to him and shot the ball past the goalie. That would be all the Mavericks could muster but Colorado Mines tallied three 2nd half goals in the 67th, 83rd, and 88th minutes to give the Orediggers a 4-2 win. On the match, the Orediggers outshot the Mavericks 18-12 but the Mavericks made 6 saves to the Mines 4. Colorado Mesa will be on the road again next weekend. On Friday, the Mavericks will take on the Regis Rangers at the Regis Soccer Pitch and Sunday they will head downtown to take on Metro State at Auraria Field. Box ScorePrint Friendly Version
