Mavs Drop Close Match to #1 Fort Lewis

        The Colorado Mesa University men's soccer team dropped a close match with the nation's top ranked team, the Fort Lewis Skyhawks. The Mavericks fell 1-0 in a tightly contested match and had chances to score in a couple spots in the game. With the loss, Colorado Mesa drops to 3-10-1 and 3-7-0 in RMAC matches while Fort Lewis kept their undefeated record and moved to 13-0-0 and 9-0-0 on the season.
        The two teams played to a scoreless first half with the Skyhawks taking 8 shots to the Mavericks 3. 
        At the 62:48 mark of the match, Fort Lewis' Derek Freeman scored his 4th goal of the season. Freeman received a deflection off a shot from Capedon Rodriguez and found the back of the net. The Skyhawks goal came on the heels of a near Maverick miss by Danny Molineaux and a flurry of yellow cards handed out by the head official.
        Micah Conrads got the start in goal and saved 4 shots in 90 minutes of work while Skyhawk Ryan Wirth picked up the shutout and made 3 saves on the night.
        CMU will travel to Pueblo on Sunday to take on the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves.
