Mines, Metro Too Much for the Mavs

          After Mesa State's best start in school history (4-0), a pair of ranked RMAC teams halted that streak. 3rd Ranked Colorado Mines beat the Mavericks Friday 5-1 and 16th Ranked Metro State took down the Mavericks today 1-0. The loss drops Mesa State to 4-2-0 overall and 0-2-0 in RMAC play.

          In Friday's RMAC opener, the 3rd Ranked Orediggers would score five unanswered goals en route to a 5-1 victory. Mines would get goals in the 2nd, 8th, 19th, 57th, and 64th minutes and out shot the Mavericks 16-6.

          Mesa State would get a goal in the 78th minute from Freshman Stan Schrock (Okinawa, Japan). Schrock found the right side of the net for his first collegiate goal. Freshman Ivan Esparza (Las Cruces, N.M.) assisted Schrock's goal.

          Senior Goalkeeper Chris Raines (Aurora, Colo.)took the loss. His record falls to 3-1-0.

          In Sunday's match, 16th Ranked Metro State got a goal in the 10th minute and that would be all the scoring in the match. Metro State's Goalkeeper Issa Bissau kept a clean sheet and the Mavericks would be shutout for the first time on the season.

          Goalkeeper Chris Raines allowed just the one goal and made 3 saves.

          Mesa State will be back in action Wednesday at 7:00pm at Walker Field. They will take on the Ft. Lewis Skyhawks, the defending National Champions. The game will be broadcast on America One webcasts and on the radio on KMSA 91.3.
