Men's Soccer beats Dixie State, now 3-0

The Mesa State Men's Soccer team is out to its best start in school history after defeating the Dixie State Red Storm on Friday 2-0. The win moved the Mavericks record to 3-0 which is the best start in the program's four year history.

Junior Bashiru Ali (Tempe, Ariz) got the scoring going in the first half. Ali scored off a corner kick that deflected off the goalie in the 32nd minute. The goal was Ali's first as a Maverick.

The scoring wouldn't stop there. Sophomore Mohamed Gaye (Denver, Colo.)would torch the back of the net in the 2nd half. Gaye's unassisted goal, his first as a Maverick also, came in the 67th minute and gave Mesa State a 2-0 advantage.

That would be all Senior Goalkeeper Chris Raines (Aurora, Colo.) would need. Raines picked up his second win of the season and second shutout of the season. Chris made two saves in the match.

The Mavericks will wrap up their portion of the non-conference season tonight against Seattle Pacific University. Tonight will also be the home opener for the Mavericks. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm at Walker Field.
