Mesa State men's golf team won the Quality Inn Maverick Spring Invitational held at The Golf Club at Redlands Mesa on Monday. The tournament was scheduled for 54 holes with 36 played on Monday and the final round 18 holes on Tuesday. Due to high winds and cold temperatures on Tuesday the final round was cancelled.
MSC led the tournament after 36 holes posting a team total 630 Monday, 20 strokes ahead of Adams State College's 650.
ASC's Jon Atencio won the individual title carding a 74 and 78 for a 152.
MSC's Brandon Bingaman and Eric Farmer tied for second place with rounds of 75 and 80 for a 155, 3 stroked behind champion Atencio. Farmer posted a tournament high six birdies and was second overall in Par 4 scoring (+5) and Par 5 scoring (-1). Bingaman tied with Farmer in Par 5 scoring (-1) and was third overall in Par 3 scoring (+4), Par 4 scoring (+8) and Pars (19).
The Mavericks Calen Hoppe and John Savage tied for fourth place (160). Hoppe shot a 77 and 83 and Savage carded a 76 and 84 on Monday. Savage led the field in Par 3 Scoring (even) and tied for first with Atencio in Pars (20).
Adam Golesh placed ninth with a 168 (84-84).
Mesa led as a team in Par 3 scoring (+24), Par 4 scoring (+49) and Pars (90). ASC led the field in Par 5 scoring (+1), Eagles (2) and Birdies (20).
MSC will travel to Castle Rock this weekend for the Bob Wirtz Invitational at Plum Creek.
