The Mesa State Mavericks Men's soccer team squared off with the top ranked school in the NCAA, the Colorado Mines Orediggers. The Orediggers slipped past the Mavericks 1-0 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match. The Orediggers improve to 9-0-1 on the season and 6-0-1 in the RMAC, while the Mavericks drop to 6-4-1 and 2-4-1 in RMAC play.
After one half of play, the score remained tied at 0-0. The game was deadlocked in every stat category also. Shots were five for the Orediggers and six for the Mavericks and the shots on goal were knotted at three a side.
The score would remain 0-0 until the 76th minute. Oredigger Chike Sullivan scored his fifth goal of the season. Sullivan took a pass from Ethan Blodgett and moved through the defense and found the right side of the goal. Mesa State trailed 1-0 at that point.
Oredigger goalkeeper Manville Strand kept the clean sheet in goal.
The Mavericks will be at home next weekend as well. Mesa State will take on the Regis Rangers on Friday at Walker Field at 4:00pm. They will also take on nationally ranked Metro State on Sunday at 12:00pm.
