Fort Lewis Holds Off Mavericks 1-0

The Mesa State Men's Soccer team couldn't mount enough offense to take down 25th ranked and defending National Champion Fort Lewis on Wednesday. The Skyhawks prevailed 1-0. Like the Women's team, the Mavericks were taking on a ranked opponent for the fourth consecutive game and going 0-3-1 over that stretch. The Mavericks record fell to 6-6-2 on the season and 2-6-2 in the RMAC, while Fort Lewis improved its record to 9-4-0 and 8-1-0 in RMAC play.

The lone goal of the game came in the 35th minute. Skyhawk Joe Barnd hammered a shot from about 18 yards out that found the back of the net. That would be all the Skyahwks would need as they prevailed 1-0.

The Skyhawks remained in second place in the RMAC with the win while the Mavericks remain in the eighth and final playoff spot. The RMAC will send eight teams to the RMAC Tournament for the first time this season.

Mesa State will play host to CSU-Pueblo on Sunday at Walker Field. Kickoff is slated for 12:00pm.
