Roadrunners Race Past Mavericks 3-1

                The Mesa State Mavericks Men's Soccer team faced off with another nationally ranked team in the 6th ranked Roadrunners of Metro State. Metro State scored three unanswered goals en route to a 3-1 RMAC victory. Mesa State's record falls to 6-5-2, 2-5-2 in the RMAC while Metro State improves to 8-2-2 and 5-1-2 in RMAC play.

                The Mavericks got on the board late in the first half. Senior Nathan Poirier(Grand Junction, Colo.) scored his second goal of the season in the 31st minute. Poirier took a cross from Senior Mitchell Reid (Arvada, Colo.) and found the middle of the net. The goal gave Mesa State a 1-0 lead.

                Metro State trailed for about 11 minutes when Walter Bertini scored from just outside the goalie box to knot the score at 1-1. The goal was Bertini's third of the season.

                The first half would end with the Mavericks and Roadrunners even at 1-1.

                Metro State would take the lead early in the second half. In the 54th minute, Metro State's David Toler took a free kick pass from Steven Emory and found the left side of the net. It was Toler's first goal of the season. The goal gave the 'Runners a 2-1 adavantage.

                Metro State got an insurance goal in the 67th minute from All-American Steven Emory. Emory scored his 9th goal of the season on a 2-on-2 transition. Emory took a pass from Walter Bertini and found the back of the net which gave the 'Runners a 3-1 cushion.

                Mesa State sits in the 6th position in the RMAC standings. This season the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference are taking six teams to the RMAC Tournament for the first time.

                Mesa State will be on the road against Ft. Lewis on Wednesday before returning home for a Sunday tilt with the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves. Sunday's mmatch will kickoff at 12:00pm from Walker Field.
