Mavericks Tame Mountain Lions in OT

        The Mesa State Mavericks Men's soccer team escaped Walker Field this afternoon with a 2-1 victory in overtime. Mesa State pushed its record to 2-7-1 overall and 2-3-0 in RMAC play while UC-Colorado Springs' record fell to 3-5-1 overall and 2-3-0 in RMAC competition.

        The Mountain Lions got on the board ealry in the first half with a goal from Dami Oladiran in the 13th minute. Oladiran's goal was assisted by Mike Mason. Oladiran took the pass from Mason and dribbled up past the defense and shot past the defender and the goalkeeper for the score. The goal was Oladiran's third of the season.

        Mesa State answered back in the 31st minute with a goal from Nick Labor (Steamboat Springs, CO). Labor took a pass from Marco Angelo (Sandy, UT) and juked the goalie on the far side of the field and shot to the right side of the net for the score. It was Labor's first goal of the year on his first shot attempt.

        The score remained 1-1 until late in the second overtime period.

        In the 103rd minute, Marco Angelo chipped a pass over the defense to a streaking Evans Afriyie (Denver, CO) where he found the left side of the net for the goal. The Golden Goal was Afriyie's third goal of the season and his second game winning goal.

        The Maverick Men will be back in action Sunday as they take on the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves. The ThunderWolves lost to Ft. Lewis earlier today by a score of 4-0. The two clubs will square off at 3pm at Walker Field.
