#23 Mesa State's (6-2-0, 3-1-0) defenders held the #7 Fort Lewis Skyhawks (4-1-1, 3-0-1) scoreless with less than two minutes remaining in regulation when Tom Settle scored on an assist from Euan Purcell to avoid overtime Sunday afternoon at Walker Field.
The teams battled for 88:15 minutes in which the Skyhawks outshot the Mavericks 17-4 and held a 5-2 corner kick advantage. Sam Dixon (So., MF, 5'11, Missoula, MT) recorded two of the Mavs four shots. Jake Jobe's (So., 6'4, Missoula, MT) solo shot was the only shot on goal for MSC. Eric Anderson (Sr., F, 5'10, North Logan, Utah) tallied one shot in the game.
Josh Tinaglia (Jr., 6'2, Littleton, CO) was outstanding in the net for the Maverick with 10 saves on the day, including six in the second period.
Next up for the Mavericks is non-conference action at home Friday and Sunday. Friday MSC will host Westminster College at 7 p.m. Earlier in the day Eastern New Mexico will play CSU-Pueblo at 4 p.m. Sunday MSC will play Eastern New Mexico at 1:30 p.m. CSU-Pueblo will play Westminster at 11 a.m.
