Soccer Shuts out Cougars

Defeat CCU 4-0

Four different Maverick players scored goals in MSC's 4-0 shutout victory against Colorado Christian Friday afternoon. MSC improved to 6-1-0 overall and 3-0-0 in conference play. The loss dropped CCU to 0-7-0, 0-2-0 (RMAC).

            Sophomore Sam Dixon (5'11, Missoula, MT) scored his first goal of the season on an assist from Jake Jobe and Andy Cornia at the 19:35 mark of the first period. MSC tallied  15 shots in the first half for a 1-0 lead. MSC's defense held CCU to just two shots in the first period.

            MSC came out in the second half and scored three goals in four minutes putting the Cougars away. Reece Flores (So., MF, 5'8, Loveland, CO) scored his first collegiate goal on a penalty kick (56:53). Redshirt freshman Nathan Farmer's (6'3, 170, Albuquerque, NM) first college goal pushed the Mavericks lead to 3-0 (59:21). Junior Stephen Hofer (5'11, Grand Junction, CO) closed out the scoring off a free kick (61:01) on an assist from Tyler Amerman (Jr., 5'10, Littleton, CO).

            Goalkeepers Josh Tinaglia (Jr., 6'2, Littleton, CO) and Tony Silvestri (RFr, 6'0, Thousand Oaks, CA) combined for the shutout. Tinaglia recorded two saves.

            MSC held a 24-4 shot advantage, allowing CCU two shots in each half.

            MSC will host Fort Lewis College Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
