GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – Sam Bryant won the 400 individual medley and anchored the medley relay to the win during day two action at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday (Feb. 9).
Bryant repeated as the 400 individual medley champion in a time of 3:52.98, just .02 off his own RMAC, pool and school records.
Eric Berg swam a prenominal backstroke leg to give the Mavericks an early lead in the 400 medley relay. Oklahoma Baptist took the lead during the breaststroke leg, but Josh Bedford kept Mesa within striking distance. Chris Radomski handed Sam Bryant a slight lead after the butterfly, and Bryant held off a late charge from Oklahoma Baptist for the win in a time of 3:15.99, breaking the previous school record by nearly three seconds.
The men started the evening by swimming a new school record in the 200 free (1:20.69) to finish second, less than half a second behind Oklahoma Baptist. Members of the team included Sky Hirsch, Chris Radomski, Morgan Bean and Eric Berg.
The women also opened the night with a new school record in the 200 free relay. Marissa Bradley, Sam White, Mary Saiz and Hannah Mabile finished third in a time of 1:35.11.
The women's 400 medley relay of Mary Saiz, Sam White, Eryn Leonard and Madelaine McClain finished third in a time of 3:48.63.
Brittany Dixon was the runner-up on the one-meter board with a score of 422.95. Cassie Blakeman was third (406.50), and Kelsey Vreeman was fifth (395.10).
The men picked up valuable points in the 100 fly. Morgan Bean finished second (48.64), followed by Chris Radomski in third (48.81), Sky Hirsch fourth (49.06) and Filip Dolk eighth (50.10).
Eryn Leonard and Hannah Mabile finished fifth (57.22) and eighth (58.08) in the women's 100 fly.
Miranda Reetz placed fourth (4:34.15), and Candice Rosen was fifth (4:37.83) in the women's 400 individual medley.
In the men's 400 individual medley, Ryan Gifford was fourth (3:59.67), and Ethan McNally was seventh (4:11.20).
Josh Bedford led the Mavericks in the 200 free finishing fourth (1:40.20). Jerry Veneris was sixth (1:40.88), and Jake Gremaud was eighth (1:42.00).
Madelaine McClain was the top CMU finisher in the women's free placing sixth (1:53.79).
 The CMU men lead after day two with 497 points. California Baptist is second (426 points), and Oklahoma Baptist is third (410 points).
California Baptist leads the women with 545 points, with Colorado Mesa second with 391 points. Oklahoma Baptist is third with 294 points.
The RMAC Championships continue through Saturday (Feb. 11).
