Women's Lacrosse
- The Mavericks (4-4), moved to 3-0 in RMAC play to maintain their first place position in the conference standings thanks to a 17-6 home win over Westminster on Saturday.
- The Mavs scored the first five goals and won wire-to-wire with a running clock for much of the second half.
- Courtney Havel, who was named as the RMAC and Co-National Offensive Player of the Week for the week prior, scored four goals.
- Courteney Murray also had a hat-trick and a career-high five points with three goals and two assists.
- Sydney Skinner had four caused turnovers and four groundballs to lead the Maverick defense, which allowed just 19 shots.
- Freshman goalie Heather Hawkins made seven saves and allowed just three goals.
- Justine Anderson had two goals raising her career total to 97 and putting her just three away from becoming the fifth Maverick to ever reach the century mark.
- The Mavs will remain at home for two games this weekend, hosting CSU Pueblo on Friday night at 7 p.m. and Fort Lewis on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
Men's Lacrosse
- The Mavericks are now 5-2 overall after ending their 3-game trip to Florida on a high note, winning at 13th-ranked Saint Leo by a "touchdown", 21-14 on Thursday.
- CMU had dropped a 10-9 heart-breaker on Tuesday at Florida Tech, giving up two goals in the final 70 seconds.
- JJ Brummett had eight goals in the two games, recording five against Florida Tech before adding another hat trick with three goals and assist in the win over Saint Leo.
- He leads the RMAC in goals (21), assists (12) and total points (33).
- The 21 goals against Saint Leo were a season-high as 11 different Mavericks scored, including Logan Smith, who had four goals.
- Connor Jensen also added a hat trick with three.
- The Mavs were ranked 17th in last week's USILA National Poll and are now tied for 19th.
- After playing their first seven games away from home, the Mavericks will finally get a chance to play in front of a home crowd when they host Concordia University Irvine in a massive conference contest this Friday at 4 p.m.
- The Golden Eagles currently sit second in the Rocky Mountain Division standings at 3-1 while CMU is in first place at 2-0 after winning over the Golden Eagles, 13-8 in their season-opener in February.
- CUI received a single vote in this week's national poll.
- Friday's match-up will also be a re-match of CMU's 13-12 overtime win over CUI in the RMAC Tournament Championship game from 2024.
Softball
- The Mavs (22-8, 20-4 RMAC) extended their winning streak to 16 with a fourth straight series sweep over the weekend.
- They swept UCCS, which has 20 wins, recording wins by 5-1, 13-2, 11-2 and 9-0 scores. The last three wins came via the mercy-rule in five innings.
- The 9-0 win was the Mavs' first shutout of the season.
- Brynn Escobar hit .417 (5-12) with four home runs and drove in nine RBIs throughout the weekend.
- Makayla Westmoreland hit .462 (6-13) with three doubles.
- Myah Arrieta also had two home runs raising her season total to 12.
- Jessalyn Gallegos had another 2-0 weekend, pitching 12 innings while not giving up a single earned run. She also had 11 strikeouts and held the Mountain Lions to how many nine hits and a .196 batting average.
- Preslee Christensen earned a shutout in the Game 4 victory, with four strikeouts on Sunday.
- The Maverick pitching staff, which had four complete games, put up a combined 0.64 ERA, surrendering just two earned and five total runs.
- The Mavs posted 38 runs of their own.
- The Mavs are still third in the RMAC standings, just a half-game behind MSU Denver (20-3 RMAC) and two games behind Colorado Christian (22-2 RMAC), who play each other this weekend in Denver.
- After playing eight games away from home, the Mavs will return home for their second to last home series against CSU Pueblo (19-12, 18-6 RMAC), which is in fourth place in the RMAC standings.
- The ThunderWolves have won ten straight games, the second longest streak in the RMAC behind CMU.
Baseball
- The Mavericks won their fourth straight home series and went 14-2 in a homeland after sweeping Colorado Christian over the weekend.
- The Mavs, 18-8 overall, are now in first place of the RMAC standings two games with a 11-1 record.
- The Mavs outscored the Cougars 56-14 and posted a 18-2 run-rule victory in the series opener on Friday.
- Cameron Cartwright hit .571 (8-14) and scored nine runs while hitting four home runs and a double. He had 13 RBIs in the series.
- Christos Stefanos hit .545 (6-11) with seven runs scored and added three doubles, a home run and eight RBIs throughout the weekend.
- Gauge Lockhart went 5 2/3 innings on Friday night surrendering just one hit and one run while striking out five. The Cougars hit .056 him as he carried a no-hitter into the sixth innings. He is now 5-0 with a RMAC-leading 2.67 ERA.
- The Mavs posted a team ERA of 3.90 during the series with the Cougars as Ethan Voss, Jordan Ellison and David Craig all picked up wins behind Lockhart.
- The Mavs out-hit the Cougars, .369 to .229 throughout the weekend and had 18 extra-base hits, including nine home runs.
- The Mavs will be on the road this weekend playing rival Colorado School of Mines (10-19, 5-7 RMAC) in a 4-game set, which begins Friday at 3 p.m. in Golden.
- They then play a noon doubleheader on Saturday and a noon game on Sunday.
- Mines was swept by MSU Denver this past weekend.
- The Mavs will then play at Division I Utah Valley in Orem next Tuesday (Apr. 1), at 2:05 p.m. in a game that will be on ESPN+. That game was a late addition to the Mavs' schedule.
Beach Volleyball
- The Mavericks went a combined 2-5 in their Spring Break travels last week and are now 12-7 overall.
- Four of their five losses came to NCAA Division I opposition although the Mavericks did end the week on a high note, beating Division I Central Arkansas, 3-2 on Saturday in Tucson, Arizona, during their final match of the weekend Arizona Invitational
- CMU also blanked Cal State LA, 5-0 on Wednesday.
- The Maverick No. 3 and 4 pairs both won three matches throughout the week.
- 3's pair Barett Nolan and & Ania Swartzendruber are now 13-6 on the season to co-lead the team with No. 2 pair Riley Daugherty & Lizzy Hood
- The 4's pair of Jessica Passi & Taylor Scherff are now 12-7
- The Mavs, who are a perfect 21-0 on home stand throughout the program's history will welcome in Emmanuel (Ga.) and Trinidad State for a pair of tri-duals this weekend on Friday and Saturday. Action will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday although the Mavs will not play the first match on Saturday and will start at approximately Noon and no earlier than 11:30 on the rolling schedule.
Outdoor Track & Field
- The Mavericks opened the outdoor season at the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Invitational at CSU Pueblo on Friday and Saturday
- On Friday, Izaak Siefken smashed the Mavs' school-record in the javelin throw with a NCAA Championship provisional qualifying throw of 64.83 meters (212-8). He leads the RMAC performance list and ranks seventh nationally as of Monday morning.
- Women's hammer throw school record holder Augustine Hancock also set a NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 53.41 meters (175-3) on Friday.
- Teo Casados won the 100 meters in a wind-aided time of 10.42 seconds on Saturday and leads the RMAC while ranking tenth nationally with his altitude-adjusted time of 10.45.
- The Mavericks had 40 top-10 finishes throughout the meet, including 35 on Saturday, when the bulk of the meet was held.
- The Mavs will return to Pueblo again this weekend for the Chuck Hearing Invitational.
Men's Tennis
- The Maverick men, currently ranked 28th in the ITA's Division II rankings, went 3-3 in their Spring Break trip to California between Saturday, Mar. 15 and Thursday, Mar. 20.
- They are now 10-9 overall and have reached the 10-win mark for the first time since 2017.
- The Mavs claimed wins over Westmont, Jessup and Menlo.
- They are 4-4 against PacWest Tournament foes and are in good position to earn their first PacWest Tournament spot since 2021.
- Emil Hultman led the Mavs with a 4-2 singles record on the trip while Romain Payan was also a solid 3-3.
- Payan and doubles partner Jamison Pfingston also led the Mavs with three doubles wins throughout the week.
- Hultman now has a team-best 15-8 singles record this season while Payan is 12-12 in singles.
- The Mavs will be off from competitive action this week before hosting MSU Denver and Colorado College on Apr. 4 and 5 in their final two home matches of the season.
Women's Tennis
- The Maverick women won five straight matches over a span of four days during their 5-2 week in California and are now 11-9 overall.
- They are also 5-2 against PacWest foes with only two matches against conference foes remaining on their schedule.
- The Mavs defeated Cal State LA, Westmont, Fresno Pacific, Menlo and Jessup during the trip
- Tuesday's 5-2 road win at Fresno Pacific was the first in program history
- Jane Steur went 6-0 at No. 6 singles throughout the trip and was 6-1 overall.
- Makenna Livingston and Delia Maier also went 4-3 as Livingston beat a nationally-ranked player for the second time this spring in No. 21 Yume Ueoku of Fresno Pacific.
- The Mavs are off this week and will then have their only three home matches of the entire season next weekend (Apr. 4-5).
Men's Golf
- The Mavs took second out 14 teams in Friday's Hot Dirt Desert Shootout in Goodyear, Arizona, finishing only behind top-ranked and defending national champions Colorado Christian.
- The Mavs finished 18-under par with a 36-hole total of 558 in the single-day the tournament.
- Cole Beyer finished in a tie for second place, ending 10-under par (134).
- Timmy Cavarno also placed fifth at -8 (136).
- Baptiste Laborde recorded an albatross (double eagle) on the par-5 13th hole at the Golf Club of Estrella.
- The Mavs then opened up The Stack Cougar-Burro Collegiate on Sunday, the first of three days of that tournament, which will be played at two different courses.
- The Mavs shot 292 (+4) and are in second place out of the same 14-team field, again behind only Colorado Christian.
- Beyer recorded a 2-under par 70 at Verrado Golf Course in Buckeye, Arizona.
- Monday's second round will also be played there before they head back to Goodyear and Estrella for Tuesday's final round.
- The Mavs were one of 11 teams, including five RMAC squads, included in the first set of official NCAA Division II South Central Regional rankings. Released on Friday (Mar. 14) in alphabetical order.
- The Mavs dropped out of the latest (Mar. 21) Bushnell/Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll but are still receiving votes.
- The Mavs are now ranked 27h in the national in the SCOREBOARD Powered by Clippd national rankings, the fourth highest rank in the region.
- Cole Beyer is ranked 12th in the national individual rankings.
Women's Golf
- The Maverick women opened the Southern Colorado Open, hosted by CSU Pueblo on Sunday at Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo.
- Cassidy Pheland and Brittlynn O'Dell were tied for eighth after posting rounds of 74 (+2) in the opening round.
- CMU was tied for fourth out of 13 teams with a Day 1 score of 302 (+14), their best single round of the season.
- The Mavs will wrap up the tournament today (Monday).
- They will then host the Maverick Challenge on Apr. 12-13, their final regular season event, at the Golf Club of Redlands Mesa.
