  • CMU received the eighth and final spot out of the South Central Regional and will begin the tournament against top-seeded and regional host MSU Denver on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the Roadrunners' Auraria Event Center.
  • Thursday's match-up will be the fourth of the season between the teams and the second post-season meeting.
  • CMU handed the Roadrunners (27-3), their only RMAC loss in four sets on Sept. 26 in Grand Junction.
  • The Roadrunners, currently ranked tenth in the national poll, have won the last two match-ups in Denver by 3-0 margins, including the Nov. 21 RMAC Tournament semifinal.
  • The Roadrunners have won 17 straight matches while the Mavs have won five out of their last six.
  • The Mavs are making their 13th all-time tournament appearance and are a combined 8-12 in NCAA Tournament play.  They will be looking for their first NCAA Tournament win since 2022 after falling in the first round in both of the last two years.
  • Head Coach Austin Albers will be making his third NCAA Tournament appearance after guiding CSU Pueblo to back-to-back appearances in 2021 and 2022 while at CSU Pueblo.  The ThunderWolves also played MSU Denver in Denver in the opening round in both of those years.
  • The winner of Thursday's match will take on either No. 4 seed West Texas A&M or No. 5 seed CSU Pueblo in Friday's regional semifinal at 7 p.m.
  • The championship match is slated for Saturday at 5 p.m. and will send a team on to the national quarterfinals on Dec. 11 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Women's Basketball
  • The Mavs, ranked 15th in the latest WBCA National Poll, improved to 8-1 and extended their winning streak to five with a pair of blowout wins during the Maverick Thanksgiving Classic.
  • On Friday, Olivia Reed Thyne broke a CMU career record for the second straight weekend, making nine field goals while scoring 23 points to record her 700th career field goal while passing Tonya Stites' former record of 699.
  • Reed Thyne, who had been named as the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week from her efforts in the prior weekend, also had a double-double with 14 rebounds and continues to separate herself from Stites in that category.
  • Mykaela Moore also matched a career-high with 18 points in the 81-52 win over Simon Fraser.
  • Reed Thyne then had a season-high 26 points while grabbing nine rebounds in Saturday's 92-53 win over Sul Ross State.  She played just 20 minutes and was 12-for-16 from the field.
  • Mason Rowland also had 17 points and six rebounds.
  • The Mavs were able to use 14 different players and built an 83-38 lead through three quarters.

  • The Mavs return a majority of their point-scorers from those efforts, including both of their national championship qualifiers in Gaby Horton (women's 200m) and Antone Higgs (men's long jump).
  • 2025 RMAC Indoor Champions Jordan Burnett (women's 400m) and Salem Brunk (men's triple jump) also return to the 2025-26 roster.
  • The RMAC Preseason Coaches Poll and Preseason All-RMAC Teams are expected to be announced this week.
