Baskin, Riniker Named To NABC All-Region Teams

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Trevor Baskin and Mac Riniker earned another postseason accolade as both redshirt juniors were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District Teams, announced Monday morning.

Baskin secured a first team selection for the South Central region while Riniker was named to the second team. Each NABC selection mirrors Baskin and Riniker's earlier honors from the D2CCA media All-Region teams. Colorado Mesa is the only South Central regional school to place multiple players among the five first-team and five second-team selections.

Baskin finished off a terrific 2023-24 campaign averaging 18.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. The Arvada, Colorado native led the Mavericks in points, rebounds, assists (3.9 per game) and blocks (1.4 per game) and ranked in the top four in the RMAC in all four categories. No other RMAC player ranked in the top 10 in even three of those four categories.

The 2023-24 RMAC Player of the Year, Baskin has now been named first team RMAC All-Conference, RMAC All-Academic and all-region for both the NABC and D2CCA. He was also named to the All-Tournament teams of both the RMAC Tournament and the South Central Regional of the NCAA Tournament.

In an injury-shortened season, Mac Riniker still made enough of an impact to repeat as the RMAC Defensive Player of the Year for 2023-24, and now adds a second team NABC All-Region honor to his second team D2CCA All-Region nod. Riniker still ranked seventh in the RMAC with 45 total steals despite playing just 22 games.

The Steamboat Springs native also took a huge leap forward offensively, leading to his first career First Team All-RMAC selection earlier this month. Riniker averaged 14.2 points per game, including his first career 30-point game against Texas A&M International on November 18 and a 28-point game against Fort Lewis on January 26. For the season, Riniker shot 63.8 percent from the field, a field goal percentage that would have led the RMAC if Riniker played enough games to qualify for the statistical title.

Riniker was phenomenal as always defensively, finishing the 2023-24 season averaging 5.2 rebounds, two steals and a block per contest. Riniker's heart and hustle made him both a fan favorite in Grand Junction and an integral part of the fabric of Colorado Mesa's unprecedented run of success over the last four seasons.

Led by Baskin and Riniker, Colorado Mesa advanced to its second Sweet 16 in program history, both of which have come in the last three seasons. The Mavericks won a school-record 29 games and captured the regular season RMAC championship while advancing to the finals of both the RMAC Tournament and the South Central regional.
