CMU drops five-setter to St. Cloud

Colorado Mesa volleyball jumped out to a 2-0 set lead over St. Cloud State winning 25-21 and 25-23 only to have the Huskies take the next two sets, 25-18, 25-22.

In the third set CMU held a 16-13 lead when St. Cloud went on a 10-1 run for a 23-17 advantage.  CMU pushed it to 23-18 before the Huskies closed out the set on a kill and block by SCSU's Shelby Peterson.

The fourth set had 10 ties and no more than a three point lead by either team. At 18-18 a three-point run pushed the Husky lead to 21-18. The teams traded the next nine points and the Huskies closed out the fourth set, pushing the match to five.

CMU led twice early in the fifth set holding a 4-3 advantage and tied the set two more times at 4-4 and 5-5. The Huskies took the lead for good at 6-5 and never trailed again on their way to a 15-11 fifth set. It was St. Clouds second win of the day. St. Cloud registered nine kills in the deciding set.

CMU's Rebecca Sellers finished with a team high 15 kills and posted a double-double with 11 digs and had four service aces. Haleigh Higgins and Kelly Regimbal had 12 and 11 kills respectively. Megan Rush finished with 29 digs. Krista Ubersox registered 27 assists and freshman Jordyn Moody tallied 15.

St. Cloud finished with 15 team blocks to the Mavs' five.

CMU will continue play Saturday in the Oredigger Classic. At 10 am CMU will play Southwestern Oklahoma and at 2 pm, close out the tournament against University of Findlay.
