Melissa Hess, was a 4-year starter for the Maverick volleyball team from 2011-2014.  She earned AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) and  D2CCA (Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association) All-America honors along with several All-Region and All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference honors in her career as a Maverick.  As a senior in 2014, Hess helped lead the team to a 20-match winning streak that included an RMAC Tournament championship run, which also propelled the Mavericks to earn the No. 1 seed and hosting rights for the NCAA South Central Region Tournament for the first and only time in program history.  The Mavericks then advanced to the regional championship match as Hess was named to the All-Tournament Team.

She finished her career with 1,022 kills, 264 total blocks, and 1,191 total points all of which still rank in the top-10 all time in Colorado Mesa history.
