HOT SPRINGS, S.D.— Freshman
Nadine Klive and returning honorable mention all-American
Paloma Suarez Davila led four Mavericks amongst the top 8-finishers as the Colorado Mesa University women's triathlon team scored a runner-up team finish in their season-opener on Saturday here at the 25
th annual Southern Hills Triathlon.
Klive, who hails from Potsdam, Germany, finished fourth in one hour, one minute, 4.8 seconds in her collegiate debut, while Suarez Davila, a native of Las Rozas de Madrid, Spain took fifth in 1:01.33.6 to lead the Mavericks.
Josie Williams, seventh in 1:02.53.3, and
Torin Lackmann, who was eighth in 1:03.03.8 also finished in the top 10 in the event, which included a quarter-mile swim, 12-mile bike and 3.1-mile run, all on out-and-back courses here at the Angostura Recreational Area.
The Mavericks finished with an unofficial team score of 120 points, taking second behind Division I Denver, which swept the podium positions while scoring 138 points. Black Hills State was third with 92 while Montana State Billings finished fourth with 13.
The Mavericks will continue their season on Sept. 17, competing close to home at the Desert's Edge Triathlon at Highline Lake State Park in Loma, Colorado.
