Box Score 2 CANYON, TEXAS – The Colorado Mesa University softball season came to end Saturday (May 7) after a pair of losses to No. 1 West Texas.
WTAMU (56-3) won both games with walk off hits in the bottom of the seventh.
CMU finishes the season with a 40-13 record.
The Mavericks scored one run in both the second and third innings in the first game of the day.
Zoe Pakes hit a single up the middle.
Tiyera Hall ran for Pakes and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Hall scored the first run for CMU on an RBI double down the left line by
Kellie Mrofcza.
Mesa's second run came compliments of back-to-back errors by the West Texas second baseman.
Baylee Boren scored after the second baseman couldn't handle a ground ball by
Makayla Kovac who reached third on the play after the ball rolled all the way to the wall.
Kellie Mrofcza hit an RBI single, one of four singles in the sixth inning, for the Mavs third run.
Ashley Hardin hit a solo homerun in the sixth to put the Lady Buffs on the board.
Brittany Gehle led off the bottom of the seventh with a double to center field and scored on a single by Andrea Sitter. CMU recorded the first out on a fielder's choice, but back-to-back walks loaded the bases. Allie Smith drove in the final two runs with a single up the middle.
Zoe Pakes and
Kellie Mrofcza each led the Mavs with two hits.
McKenzie Surface (22-9) gave up all four earned runs on eight hits. She struck out four and walked five.
West Texas scored first in game two with one run in the bottom of the third.
Brittany Gehle led off the third inning with a triple and scored on a ground out to first base.
CMU responded with all three of its runs in the fourth.
Brooke Hodgson led off with a triple and scored on a ground out to third base.
Blake Adams singled to left field and scored on a triple to center field by Sara Phillis.
Nicole Robinson drove in the final run of the inning with a single to center field.
West Texas cut the Colorado Mesa lead to 3-2 with a run on three singles in the sixth.
The Lady Buffs put a runner on second with one out after an error on a fly ball to the outfield. Ashley Hardin ended the CMU season with a two-run homerun to center field.
Brooke Hodgson took her first loss of the year (6-1) throwing 6.1 innings striking out three and walking three.
