Mavs Continue to Shine Bright in the Pool

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – Colorado Mesa University won three events, set six school records and one conference record at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships Friday (Feb. 12).

Justin Hastings won the 100 back and broke the conference and school records with a time of 47.88.

Sam Bryant won his third individual event of the championships setting a pool and school record time of 5:29.09 in the 500 free.

Mary Saiz earned her first RMAC crown with a win in the 100 back in a time of 55.94.

Josh Bedford was the runner-up in the 100 breast in a school record time of 55.90.

Eryn Leonard set a new school record in the 200 fly to finish third in a time of 2:03.99.

The Mavericks concluded the night with school records in both genders of the 800 free relay.

The men's squad of Sam Bryant, Kyle Johnston, Ryan Gifford and Josh Bedford lowered the school record by two seconds to place second in a time of 6:37.69.

The women's relay team of Mary Saiz, Eryn Leonard, Marissa Bradley and Abi Young finished third and lowered the school record by three seconds to 7:38.90.

Cassi Blakeman finished one spot out of the medals on the one-meter finishing fourth (407.90). Amanda Grigsby was 12th (273.00) and Carmen Hernandez was 14th (235.60).

Mesa placed four men in the 200 fly. Chris Radomski was fifth (1:51.15), Kyle Johnston seventh (1:55.94), Morgan Bean eighth (2:00.36) and Jake Gremaud 11th (1:57.68).

Danielle Fournier was seventh (2:10.59), and Katelin Staab was ninth (2:09.00) in the 200 fly.

Parker Twiss placed fifth (57.02) in the 100 breast, and Pete Byers was 12th (59.96).

Miranda Reetz finished fourth in the 100 breast (1:04.61), and Haley Fellows was 16th (1:09.08).

In the 100 back, Sky Hirsch placed seventh (52.72), Ethan Pfeiffer eighth (53.43), Connor Petty 12th (53.96) and Dan Lawley 13th (54.06).

On the women's side, Olivia Hudson was seventh (58.82), and Hannah Mabile was 13th (1:00.07).

Mesa had four other Mavericks score in the men's 500. Ryan Gifford was eighth (4:37.89), Jason Hicks 13th (4:44.38), Jeremy Pacheco 14th (4:44.72) and Garrett Koehler
16th (4:46.03).

Abby Porter led four Maverick women in the 500 with a ninth place finish (5:07.82). Sami Lenzmeier was 10th (5:09.61), Abi Young 14th (5:13.72) and Kat Gerstmar 16th (5:15.96).

The men's team is currently third trailing California Baptist 647-643.

The women are sitting in third after the third day with 481.5 points.

The RMAC Championships conclude Saturday (Feb. 12).
