Sam Bryant set the tone early for Colorado Mesa University at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference by winning the men's 1,000 free in a new school, pool and conference record time of 9:18.46 Wednesday (Feb. 10).
The Mavericks broke four school records during day one action.
The women's 200 medley relay team of
Mary Saiz,
Miranda Reetz,
Eryn Leonard and
Marissa Bradley, finished second in a school record time of 1:44.86.
The men's 200 medley relay team of
Justin Hastings, Josh Bedford,
Chris Radomski and Sky Hirsch finished second in a school record time of 1:28.13.
The Mavericks entered the finals of the 50 free with the top seeds on both the men's and women's sides.
Mary Saiz set a school record of 23.67 in the prelims but finished second in the final in a time of 23.71.
Eryn Leonard was seventh (24.21), and
Marissa Bradley was 16
th (24.81).
Justin Hastings finished second in the men's 50 free in a time of 20.45. Sky Hirsch, who swam the fastest time in the prelims, placed second in 20.46.
Chris Radomski was seventh (21.20), and
Connor Petty was 13
th (21.43).
Josh Bedford broke the school record in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:51.14 to finish second.
Ethan McNally finished sixth (1:52.87), and Dan Lawley was 15
th (1:56.72).
Cassi Blakeman finished fourth on the 3-meter board (385.70).
Amanda Grigsby finished 11
th (284.80), and
Carmen Hernandez was 14
th (207.5).
Miranda Reetz finished sixth in the 200 individual medley (2:08.63), and
Olivia Hudson was 13
th (2:11.11).
Abby Porter and
Katelin Staab placed fifth (10:33.49) and sixth (10:36.04) in the women's 1,000. Kat Gerstmar placed 13
th (10:47.27), and
Abi Young was 16
th (10:55.53).
In the men's 1,000,

th (9:46.10),

th (9:57.98).
The CMU men currently sit second in the team standings with 162 points. The Maverick women are third with 147 points.
