Justin Hastings won two events for Colorado Mesa University at the CMU Swimming and Diving Invite Friday (Nov. 20).
The 200 medley relay team led from start to finish thanks to a strong opening leg by Hastings to win with a time of 1:30.52. Other members of the team included Josh Bedford,
Chris Radomski and Sky Hirsch.
Hastings led a 1-2 finish for CMU in the 100 fly. Hastings won in a time of 49.76, with Sky Hirsch second in 50.32.
Chris Radomski placed fourth for CMU in a time of 50.81.
Hastings would nearly earn a third win on the evening with the 800 free relay. Hastings and
Ryan Gifford would battle California Baptist stroke for stroke, before
Kyle Johnston gave the Mavs the lead going into the final leg. Josh Bedford swam the second fastest split (1:40.90) of the entire race, but Alexis Ohmar swam the fastest split (1:39.82) to give Cal Baptist the win in the final event of the night.
The Mavericks earned three NCAA Qualifying marks in diving.
Ryan Popp won the one-meter with an NCAA Qualifying score of 448.95.
Sage D'Ambrosia earned an NCAA Qualifying score in prelims before finishing second in the final with a mark of 437.90.
Cassi Blakeman won the three-meter with an NCAA Qualifying score of 421.51.
Abby Smith (340.05) and
Amanda Grigsby (241.40) finished third and fourth.
Josh Bedford finished third in the 200 free (1:42.23). He also placed third in the 100 breaststroke (58.74), and
Ethan McNally was fourth (59.02). McNally would finish third in the 400 individual medley (4:10.75),
Ryan Gifford was fourth (4:10.84) and Dan Lawley was sixth (4:15.09). Lawley placed eighth in the 100 back (56.49).
Eryn Leonard finished third in the 100 fly (57.57), and
Katelin Staab was eighth (1:01.22).
Abi Young and
Marissa Bradley placed fourth (1:56.50) and fifth (1:57.28) in the 200 free.
Abbie Porter finished fourth in the 1,000 free (10:44.89), and
Olivia Hudson was eighth in the 100 back (1:01.89).
The women's 200 medley relay (1:50.41) and 800 free relays (7:52.11) both placed fourth.
Mesa moved up the team standings during day two. The men are currently second behind California Baptist. The women moved into fourth behind California Baptist, Colorado Mines and Western State.
The CMU Invite concludes Saturday (Nov. 21).
